
Simon Averin is a cinematographer and filmmaker based in Stockholm, Sweden, working in fiction and documentary. As Director of Photography Simon is interested in personal stories with great empathy and humanity. Stories that explore big subjects through the human experience. He wishes that he through the camera can help the audience empathize with a perspective or life that they might not usually take part in. His master thesis ”Att vara där” / ”To be there”, explores a feeling of presence created by the camera and the cinematographer’s connection with acting.
Simon graduated with a Master’s in Cinematography from Stockholm University of the Arts in 2023. His feature debut, La belle année, won the jury prize in the Tiger competition at Rotterdam International Film Festival, and his short film ”Stand up, sit down” was nominated to compete in the student Oscars. His short film ”The Viewing Room” won Best Cinematography at Sweden’s Short Film Festival 2023.
